Clothing Industry Research

I have finally summoned the courage to commit myself in writing! Here is the first posting on my fantastic new website, which my brother, Ian, has very kindly developed for me.

For all that don’t know me, I have a real passion for clothing related research having applied my practical industry experience into the academic field. I wanted to create an online environment in which to discuss development within research and industry practice. I hope friends and colleagues will post dialogue, articles and commentary relative to their own areas of interest.

Since successfully completing the viva for my PhD in Design on the 31 Oct 2007 (it is still bonkers to think I am a Dr!), work wise I have had a very hectic and enjoyable 10 months. I have been working as an independent research consultant with: Skillfast-UK, the Sector Skills Council for Fashion and Textiles as part of their qualifications team; also the Centre for Recycling and Reuse on a Defra sponsored initiative to investigate sustainability within corporatewear clothing.

Research wise, I have two conferences pending at which I am presenting papers to disseminate key findings from my thesis:

Conference: Networks of Design (Design History Society); 3-6 Sept 2008; Falmouth, UK. Paper title: Networks within networks: understanding interrelationships between people and processes to inform knowledge of processes

Conference: Fashion and Textiles: Heading towards new horizons (Textile Institute); 18-21 Nov 2008; Hong Kong. Paper title: Maximisation of industry specific adoption across the fashion and textiles sector

Having been scared to start, I found it quite hard to stop writing! Before I go I want to say thanks to everyone that has helped me to get to where I am, especially my partner Jay, my Mam, Dad and brother Ian! Sadly my Nan is no longer here to thank, but I will anyway!! Last but not least, I have to thank my wonderful friends, who have supported and encouraged me all the way!
